Community Works works primarily in Thirsk in North Yorkshire, to ensure that the community is strong, vibrant and resilient and that individuals in the community feel that they belong, are connected and can live independent, active fulfilled lives.

My role within the organisation supported their social objectives to increase social inclusion, increase community resilience and to improve people’s wellbeing and economic prosperity. My day to day saw me coordinating social and TLC groups, supporting individuals with one off interventions and longer term support associated with a wide range of issues around mental ill health, long term illness, unemployment, isolation and educational underachievement.

On a weekly basis I would also support the Youth Development Officer to deliver a number of youth clubs locally and to offer 1:1 support. I not only learnt about the necessary provision of an emergency food bank, I have also gained an awareness of up-cycling through their enterprise furniture store and the importance of partnership working to reach those in crisis.
