Engagement at Dover Castle

Freelance project commission on various dates March / April / October 2023

Introducing two local youth groups to Dover Castle, via site visits and facilitating a responsive participatory art session. The Youth Participation Officer and I worked with Dover Air Cadets who have a special interest in WW1 and WW2 History and Dover Youth Hub.

The groups explored the history of Dover Castle as well as the different ways that people have connected with the landscape over time, particularly in times of conflict and war. My role was to facilitate the creative participatory sessions that reflected on the feelings that the pilots had when they flew back over the channel during and after the World Wars, when they saw Dover Castle and the white cliffs of Dover. As well the affect of the site visit on the young people. We used sensory aids to inspire the groups and explored a combination of multi-media and printmaking artforms.
